View Full Version : Graphic Lineweight Display

I am new to the world of Revit and I have a problem. There might be a simple solution to this and I'm an idiot for posting this so please don't laugh at me. I am working on a simple residential addition and I have almost everything worked out except the graphics. I would like to have my New Construction phase walls to have a grey solid fill/hatch. I have tried doing a graphical override but it ends up making all of my new trimmed openings (and stairs, windows, doors, etc.) a solid line instead of the appropriate line weight condition (dashed overhead line, or thinner lines for doors and such).
I realize that I can make the new walls a different type of wall of the same wall and apply a coarse scale fill pattern of solid grey but I was hoping that there might be an easy overall phase graphic change that would do this.
I was reading a thread similar to the question I'm asking but I don't think it was ever resolved and I was hoping that maybe someone has figured it out since then.

Is this "the look" you're after ?

Yes and no. Your New Walls are graphically what I'm looking for but the existing walls I would like to remain without a fill...just a solid black line. And I would like the trimmed openings to remain a dashed overhead line for new AND existing. This is for my phase filter Show Existing + New. I've attached a .jpg of what I'd like for it to look like.

I think this may be what you are looking for.
The "Show Previous + New" phase setting over-rides the "Existing "elements and therefore applies a solid line globally, so that the linework tool is required for the openings in that phase.
The Existing phase material is set to "No Pattern"

I forgot to mention that I would like to do this without having to use the linework tool. I don't think I should have to use the linework tool to get my "general" by category lineweights for different phases to be exactly as I would like for them to be.

I used the linework tool for the opening in the existing phase only, for the reason explained.

Beegee,
How did you get your new walls to display with a fill pattern and with the correct line weights for everything else?
Did you create a separate wall style with a course fill pattern just for the new walls without using a graphic override? I would prefer to make it phase specific and able to still have a fill pattern when the view is set to fine. This way we could see any material layers and associated hatch patterns and still see the solid grey fill pattern to let you know it is new. How else am I going to be able to show the difference between a new stud wall and a new cmu wall?
There should be a separate object styles control list for each "phase" (existing, new & demo) as opposed to having 1 override setting that universally changes all categories. Oh how I miss just being able to control display with layers!
