View Full Version : 2014 Phase overrides don't affect elements in linked models.

Here's my situation:

1. In my main Revit model, ALL elements are created in the "New Construction" phase.

2. In my linked model, ALL elements are created in the "Existing" phase.

3. In my project Phasing->Phase Filters, I've created a filter named "Isometrics." In this filter, new elements are "By Category," existing elements are "Overridden," and both demolished and temporary elements are "Not Displayed."

4. In my project Phasing->Grahic Overrides, I've overridden the material for existing elements with a white material.

5. My isometric view's visual style is set to "Shaded," and the Phase Filter is set to "Isometrics."

6. In the type properties of the linked model, the "Existing" phase in the main file is equivalent to the "Existing" phase in the linked file, and "New Construction" is equivalent to "New Construction." I've also tried every other combination. I've also tried opening the linked model and changing the elements to be created in the "New Construction" phase, and then re-tried every combination.

In my isometric view, both the main file and the linked file look identical, as though everything is new construction. If I change elements in the main file to be created in the "Existing" phase, they are properly overridden with the white material.

Is there any way to make the Phasing->Graphic Overrides apply to elements in the linked model? Or, am I just overlooking something here?

If I understand you correctly, I think you'll need to set up your Phasing graphic overrides in the linked model as well. In your main Revit model, in the Visibility / Graphic Overrides dialog box, you'll need to set the Phase and Phase filter for the linked model. It takes a little setup but will give you the most control

If you assign a Phase Filter to a View, the local elements (in the current project) are affected normally. The elements within the linked View look for a Phase Filter of that same name within the Linked file and obey THAT Phase Filter. If it doesn't exist, then the elements are simply not affected by the Phase Filter Override. This is seldom noticed because the OOTB standard Phase Filters exist in almost every Project. So, as Ryan stated, you will have to open the Linked Project and add your "Isometrics" Phase Filter (you don't have to fix the Graphics Overrides, though).

#3 in your post describes your "Isometrics" Phase Filter exactly like the default "Show Previous + New"; you should use that one and this problem should be alleviated.

Ryan and Corey -
Thanks to you both! With your help, I got this to work just the way we want. Much appreciated!
