I have an existing hotel with a group of rooms. This group is placed on 4 floors. I'm trying to add a line-based countertop family in one bathroom, which is hosted by the floor level. I'm in an existing floor plan, which happens to be the 2nd floor. I edit the group, place the countertop, then finish the group. I get an "instance in same place" error, and it turns out that on the instance of that group on the 3rd floor, it's placing that countertop down on the 2nd floor. All the other group instances (1st, 2nd, and 4th floor) have the countertop in the right place.
What could be going on here?

I have a strong memory of running into this but can't recall where it came up, at a client's office, via email or in a forum discussion. I think it had to do with using Copy/Paste at some point and the family in question seemingly locked into a specific level relationship. If I remember more I'll let you know. Sorry!

There is an ongoing issue with Revit groups and items hosting to a floor and not a level. Furniture is the biggest issue. If you turn off your floors first, add the counter top, it will host to the level and it should work placing the counter top on upper levels. Not sure why it would have added it to the other floors correctly.

Hello, I've come across this thread after searching the general internet as well as these forums for a while...
I have the same problem, only not with counter tops. I'm trying to place the closet shelf with rod family into a grouped unit in my building. I tried the method of turning off the floor first and then adding the family to the group... but I'm still having the same issue.
If I turn off the floor, the option changes from Place on Face to Place on Work Plane. I place the shelf and finish the family editing and I get the same issue with duplicate instances in one place.
It is starting to drive me nuts because we have lots of these units all over the building and re-placing each one would be obviously very tedious. Are there any other tips since this thread was started?
