View Full Version : 2014 Problem: Dimensioning Solids in Layout

I have been using AutoCAD for many, many years but have only recently started using it for 3D modeling using solids. The tools for this have become much easier to use. I was very impressed with the new method of creating projected views of the model in Layout using the Base and Projected commands.

However, I have been encountering some frustrating behaviour when trying to dimension (annotate) the layout views. I find that the dimensions often refuse to snap to circle centers. As well it seems only one dimension can snap to a specific location at a time. Once a dimension has been snapped to a corner or midpoint no other dimension will snap to the same location. This still occurs even if the original dimension has been erased.

I have checked this forum, Autodesk forums, and the help files but have not found any solution. I have tried various SNAP settings, both 2D and 3D but nothing seems to help.

Are there any variables or methods that I need to invoke? This behavior is ruining what I originally thought was an extremely useful feature.

I will likely face this scenario at some point (no pun intended) but, if you do have one dimension that will snap could you then use its node as the subsequent snap points?
