I have a project coming up that is going to require double pitched underslung joists. I have done a fair amount of looking on the web and around forums for easy ways to either modify the joists already in Revit for a double slope or I tried to find someone who has already done something like this. It sounds like there are a few who have done something like this but I have been unable to figure it out. I have a basic understanding of revit but have not worked with creating or modifying families.
I am using Revit 2015. I see in thier family library that they have double slung SLH joists already in the library but when I place them in the project, the peak is lined up with the floor level I placed it at. I included a screen shot showing what I am talking about in Revit. I understand that I can change the base offsets to make it line up, I would just like to know if anyone knows a way to not fake it in.
If anyone has anything that will help it would be greatly appreciated.

If I had to guess, you'll want to move the work plane reference plane in the family down to the bottom of the seat.
Just a guess though.

other than re-build the joist family, this could take some time, I agree this family does not work as expected, and is a pain to use.
My quick fix with the out-of-box joist family. change z-direction justification to other, apply z-direction offset value. to calculate this value use the rise of joist based on slope and span, then add joist seat depth. this should give you correct offset value. this should work if both bearing ends are in same plane. also if the joist span changes or slope , you will need to re-calculate offset value. Also you set the z-direction values first in properties before placing and this will help in placing. just be aware that you will need to change back when you move on to another framing area. if you are using beam system adjust elevation using this calculated value.

Hope this helps, maybe in the future Revit will give us a more user friendly type family for pitched joists.
The Canam Joist Mfg has developed a few new Revit Families that may be some help, you could download at
