I'm getting killed with constant fatal errors and the program shutting down when applying materials to a wall in my project. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Which version are you running? Did you apply all the patch?

mmm.. do you have Harware Acceleration on? Is it a migrated project? Does it happen on a new project using a 2014 template?

No hardware acceleration (great idea to start here, see below), it's not a migrated project (however my entire family library and template is pre-2014), I'll have to test a 2014 template.

What's interesting though is that I see a Newer Video Card Driver warning "The installed video card driver is newer than those certified by Revit. Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260; current driver: 9.18.13.3489 Certified drivers: 9.18.13.697." Perhaps I should first figure out how to roll this driver back to the previous certified one!?

My guess is that the drive and card weren't available when they tested for 2014. They only test them once a year and it's only the products and builds available at that time. So Me thinks it's not a driver or card issue. I get the same warning. I'm running with accel on. I'm running a GTX 650, no problems here.
Did your 2013 template have the materials in it, or are you adding them from a 2014 material library?
Just some thoughts.

That's good, because the rolled-back driver is still newer than the certified version. The driver versions on the nVidia site have a completely different numbering system, so I wouldn't even know which one to pick.

Yes, my template is populated with materials passed down throughout many different versions throughout the years. Other than that, I have no user created libraries. The only libraries available are the default Autodesk Materials, and AEC Materials both of which I would assume are v2014.

I think that might be the problem.
In 2014 Adesk finally combined the libraries from Acad, Revit, and max (could be more) into one. So now you can use materials from one library in all programs. That could be part of the problem. Just a thought, but I haven't played much with them in 2014 yet.

When using a 2014 template, applying materials to a wall did not result in a crash. However, the first time that the material browser is opened Revit becomes unresponsive for just over a minute. This also occurs with my template.

So when you say your 2014 template you're talking about a template that was upgraded from 2013 to 2014. Might be a good idea to open and reload those materials in your 2014 template before you use it in a project. I'm thinking that might help solve the issue.

The 2014 template that I just tested is the out-of-the-box with no user mods or imports. The template that I was having problems with (my template) was upgraded from many versions over the years.



Might be a good idea to open and reload those materials in your 2014 template before you use it in a project. I'm thinking that might help solve the issue.

I'll have to look into doing that. Thx. Wouldn't I have to first delete all materials in my template? I have many customizations.

Try cutting off all network access and doing the same operation locally to see if the lag is still there

I rebooted the computer, unplugged the computer from the network, started Revit, opened a project, and opened the material browser which indicated that it was (not responding) for 1 minute 15 seconds. All subsequent attempts to open the material browser do so without delay.

Can afford to try a repair of Revit? It seems like there's something wring with the lib itself
