I am trying to change the linetype of a new layer from the default to a dashed line. I've done so by specifying the dashed line in the Layer Properties Manager window when I create the layer. For some reason, the default still appears when I draw anything in that layer. The same problem occurs w/ the line weight.
This should be very simple. What could I be doing wrong???

Are you sure your linetype setting is bylayer?...In other words, re-visit your linetype style manager dialog and ensure that you don't have linetype set to other than bylayer.

Yes, I've tried setting it by layer and by the linetype I want, but neither works. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Any other ideas?

Use the LIST command to verify that your newly created lines are inheriting the linetype of the layer, and do not have a linetype applied to them.
Next, check your drawing linetype scale to make sure that the 'dashed' linetype will show up in the given display.
Next, verify that your newly created lines do not have a linetype scale (other then 1.0) applied to them.
I know you said "when you draw anything" - but just in case you were drawing 3D Polylines - they will never display a linetype.

If drawing polylines, do you have linetype generation turned on? What are your base units? Are you using imperial linetypes with a metric drawing?

Check your dimscale, too.

Check your dimscale, too.
What would DIMSCALE have to do with this problem?

What would DIMSCALE have to do with this problem?
The same thing that LTScale has to do with it.
I haven't seen a response that says "my linetype is bylayer" or "the linetype of the line is "continuous" (or whatever the "default" is)".
The originator of the thread has still not given quite enough specific information for us to know what the linetype really is of newly drawn lines...
I'd also like to know if this is paper space or model space, what the dimscale is, what PSLTscale is, what LTScale is and what the user gets when -LTScale is typed at the command prompt.
