This questions gets asked a lot. Search for renderer on the forums and you'll find a lot of questions. The answer depends on a lot of factors, but I'll stick my neck out and give one answer: for the most robust solution, I'd go with V-Ray for 3ds Max. If you are using Revit 2014 and 3ds Max 2014, you can link your Revit model directly and maintain your material assignments. The people who really know how to render at my firm do it this way.

If you are looking to render directly in Revit, you might try OctaneRender. They have a Beta Add-In for Revit that when I tested it (on a small project) did quite well.

Just wanted to add a quick comment about vray. Our latest test (2014,2015) shows that Mental Ray (MR) is as fast as Vray in most situation. So if you already have a Max Design through your suite you might not have to invest in Vray

Define "Best" would be my question.
Are you looking for Photorealistic? Ease of Use? Speed? Cost?
There's a ton of options out there and the first question to ask is what are you trying to get out of it.
