Edit Assembly - Floor- Metal Deck - Variable grayed out

Hello,
Is it possible to have 'variable' enabled when the material is set to 'metal deck'?...

After adding split lines and a point to the concrete layer of my assembly (the default '3" LW Concrete on 2" Metal deck'), I can't get the metal deck to NOT follow the slope of the depressed region. I want the metal deck to maintain being horizontal. Any suggestions?

No because the metal desk is define by the profile you are using

...when modeling slab depressions on metel-deck assemblies, it looks like the 'accepted' method is to use the void-extrusion method and/or the in-place-family operation?

You always have at least 1 layer on top of your metal deck, that's the layer that you make flexible.
