Dropping updated families to a project and checking the 'Do this for all loading families' to overwrite does not work anymore. It asks for each instance. Is this broken?

I've never heard that that is possible. What versions are we talking about?

Another option is a free part of CTC BIM Manager Suite called Family Tools. You can select families and projects and it will update those families in those projects (can suppress that dialogue you complain about). But beware - last time I tried that tool it would also load families which were not already in the project (contrary to what the check box option says). But still a great tool.

I'm with Steve - I'm pretty sure this functionality worked in previous versions, and now it does not.
