Description: Select your first point then when you zoom in and pan to select finer point you lose your selection ones out of window. You can only select objects that are only inside your window.

As a precaution AutoCAD allows us to modify only objects visible on screen. That way if we make mistakes there's a good chance we will see them happen. You can make multiple window selections scrolling in and out with your mouse, then make sure your entire selection is visible on screen before executing the command. They just want to make sure we know what we're doing.
