I am having a problem importing a raster image. I am trying to import a .BMP file that has been scanned. It is a floor plan that I am trying to model over. I am having 2 problems. First of all my computer gets extremely slow when I import this file and second, the file says that it's dimensions are 11'x16' (yes feet). The original scan was a 24"x36" sheet. Help!!

Open the image in a paint program and reduce its size to something reasonable before re-importing.

If you can't do that - can you get a new scan at a workable resolution ?

Do images import according to pixels or physical size? I ask because I opened the image in Photoshop and it is 24"x36" according to the Photoshop rulers. Is there any way to import to the correct scale?

Pixels stay the same and size adjusts for import resolution.

The image will import at 72 dpi, so the size of the image after import will depend on what the resolution of the original image was.

Looking at the results you're getting, your original image must be about 400 dpi. ( a factor of 5.555 on import )

If you know the length of a line, draw a line the same length in the project, then simply select the bitmap, and scale it by moving one of the bitmap corners. It will take a try or two, but you'll get there. (Be sure that lock proportions button is checked (top of drawing screen with bitmap selected) before you scale the bitmap.

If you are using the bitmap to display in a project use a decal instead.

Also, if you can't rescan per Beegee's suggestion, or if you don't have photoshop,
send it to me and I'll reduce the resolution in photoshop.

A further note.

Each pixel of an image takes 3 bytes of storage. ( - 3 RGB values per pixel, one 8-bit byte each value, which totals 24 bit color.)
If your 36 x 24 RGB 24 image was 400 dpi that requires approx 395.5 mb of RAM ( 36 x400 x 24 x 400 x 3 ) / ( 1024 x 1024 ) RAM is required since the graphic is being uncompressed or processed in memory as it is imported.

This is an AutoCAD workaround:
Draw a line repeating known lenght on your, imported in Revit, raster. Then scale raster AND line together giving the line wanted (known) lenght. It works in Revit 7. That's it!

The method for Scaling an Imported Image is setout in this Tips and Tricks thread. (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=7588&highlight=scale)

Hey there,
Not that I would (or rarely ever "could"!) correct any of the gurus here; however, one of the best new timesaving features in version 7 is the "resize" tool. You just click on the image corner, click on the next point (know dimension) and then just move the curser untill you get the running dimension to be what you want (either bigger or smaller depending on the view scale and image size), or simpler yet, just type the dimension after your second click selection. Bang. Your image is exactly the size you need. (You have to do this again if you change the scale of the view you're working in.)

Good luck
