Void or Cutout in Wall

Hi! Is it possible to make a void or cutout in a portion of a wall. I have a "Thick" wall (30" thick) and I would like to "notch out" or remove the top corner part way through (see example image) my wall. I tried making a face based generic family with a void. I get an orange colored outline of the void but I dont believe its actually cutting a void in my wall... The "cap" on my example wall is a "model in place component" and I can modify that if needed. I appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

In the void family, check Cut with Voids When Loaded option in properties and in your project use cut tool to cut the wall and the cap.
