View Full Version : Sheet Name in Titleblock (Revit 7)

I want to have 2 lines for my sheet name to show eg
Mezzanine Floor
West Tower
but when I use a label of a certain length to enable word wrap, the wrap does not occur at the right place for another sheet name and it comes out eg
Basement 1 West
Tower
Is there a way to overcome this?
Thanks.

You could leave the sheet name label to display just the " floor level" - ie Basement 1, Mezzanine Floor etc; then add a new label, below the sheet name, using a shared parameter field to dispay the area - ie West Tower, etc.

as beegee said, or for a quick fix just add lots of spaces in between "1" and "West"

This really needs sorting in Revit

Putting spaces in to get the text looking correct for the border text is a workaround that makes a mess of your schedule. This applies to room tags as well where we notice it the most.
Somehow Revit needs to open up the drag handles for any Tag we create within the project just like standard Revit text does.

...er..thanks beegee but I'm just learning, so how does one do what you suggested, if you could explain slowly...I can manage up to about setting up the sheet to include all those 'built in' parameters like sheet name number etc.

Open the Settings->Project Information dialog.
Place your cursor at the location you would like an enter and press ctrl+enter. This will place a carriage return and allow the project name to wrap on multiple lines.

Hey there,

My approach to labels is similar to drawing titles (view titles). I just make the label in the family editor a lot longer than I could ever need so that if any title becomes long, I have room.

In addition, some labels have two lines, both of which are longer than necessary, so that I can choose where the break occurs between the lines.

Good Luck

ooops, didn't read carefully Aaron's post..............sorry!!!! nevermind what I wrote below!!!!

Hey, maybe you guys missed my post in revit tips and tricks....but!!!!

You don't need to have a different label, or additional label, or anything else....

just use <CTRL>-Enter between one line and the other...this will add a forced enter.....but, the only problem is that the only way the program will recognize it, if it is entered from a pop up window, basically, the only way the system cannot recognize the forced enter is when you try to do it graphically on the drawing....so, there is no problem with Titleblock information, no problem with view names....give it a try!!!

Peace,}}}}

...<CTRL>-Enter between one line and the other...this will add a forced enter.....}This does result in two lines in a schedule. I'm with Phil Palmer...Revit should make it possible to tweak a label width in the project somehow.

Similar to MS Access and other databases, labels should have:

- the abiltiy for default values (i.e. today's date, or any other data)
- the ability to set a specific field length (50 characters, 6 digits, etc.)
- the ability to validate data (proper type, in list etc.)
- the ability to have an input mask (99-xx-xx)

Just my 2 cents.

Actually, speaking of sheet names (title block's name), it won't accept a forced enter.....:(

Sounds good, Aaron & Luigi, will give that a go - the less fuss the better. Thanks a million.

Luigi,

It works from the Project and Project settings dialogue, not from the Titlesheet family.

Can't do ctrl enter with sheet name...Ok so I'll have to do it with shared parameters as suggested by beegee.
BTW how do I include a quote of someone else's answer in my reply and how do I place an icon after a sentence?

Hey there,

Simply click on the "quote" button in the person's post that you want to quote. You can delete what you don't want quoted; however, you must leave the two command codes [QUOTE] in place.

Good luck with your labels

Kwong,

For making quotes and adding icons go to the bottom of the page and either click on Vb code or Smilies. You will see a list which you can click on for an explanation on how to add quotes, etc.

 noticed the quote button after sending off reply - thanks all the same - SCShell & Henry D.

After trawling through the forum searching under 'title sheet' I've found so much valuable info I've almost finished creating my titleblock to include labels for multi line sheet name, names of consultants, and a way to switch on/off FC/NFC & visual scales. It's been an invaluable couple of nights (or more)! This is a truly great place to learn! Thanks to all who contributed. kwong:D
