Hi,
I'm wondering if any of you Family Guru's can take a look at this.
I'm trying to create one family which incorporates as many "edge conditions" as possible. Is it possible to show TJI's as a family type and conventional lumber as another? Or will I need a different family for this.
I'm also wondering if there's a better way of doing this. For example can this be part of the wall type?
Thanks in advance :D

I'm sorry, but I'm not understanding. Neither what you're looking for NOR what you're looking to use it for. Please help us to understand.

Michael,
Cool to meet you today, I hope you got a lot out of Cyril's workshop. I enjoyed it. Looks like you might find THIS (http://www.zoogdesign.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=283&highlight=detail+component) interesting to follow along.
If I understand your intent, you want to group your section detail together so you add one component and deal with an entire floor's structural elements, top plate, sill, rim joist and mud sill as in your example? If you track along and check out the examples in the linked thread above you can see how to create a family that you can place in your model that will automatically show up in a section cut as long as the family exists somewhere along the cut plane.
If you just want a detail component that is more complete as you've laid out, then you can just drop your detail as is on a section cut, and use the align tool to move the top plate up and the floor framing stuff down accordingly. You'd need a version for each condition type. Also if you use filled regions to create the individual pieces they can mask out the underlying model in the view nicely.
Post back if you need more help...

It was good meeting you too. I did get a lot out of the Cyril's seminar, i'm glad it was in-depth.
Sorry for the confusion with my post. The thread you pointed me to is exactly what I was looking for.
The difference with the family I posted is that it uses instance parameters which, I think is more flexible, since you don't need to make a new type for each wall height. The downside is that you have to insert it in each view (section)
It would be great if this was built into the wall type as well as insulation, notes etc.
Do you think structural elements will soon be included in floors/walls/ceilings/roofs? With options for member spacing and overrides?
It would make framing plans a whole lot easier.

I don't know and I'm not sure I'd want the "overhead" of having that level of detail in the model throughout...but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be there or possible. Since this is important to your firm, call Revit Support and log the wish and check the wishlist here for a precedent post and add your voice to it or if none exists...create a new wish.
