Void Extrusion difficulty

I thought I had the proceedure down for making a void extrusion and am able to do so in a wall but when I make a Solid Extrusion then try to place a Void Extrusion in it I am not allowed to select the Solid Extrusion, only the Void with the Cut Geometry tool. Therefore I cannot complete the the Void. What am I missing?

Edit the in-place solid family.

Create the void extrusion

Finish Sketch ( It will cut the solid without needing the Cut Geometry Tool. )

Finish the family.

Thanks, once again, for pulling my bacon from the fire. Have you considered doing some tutorial video's? You have been such a great help to me and others and there hardly seems to be a task you can't solve.
