Walls and complex historical window openings

Hi,

We are trying to quickly draft (2D) floor plans for a historic building with thick stone walls and complex opening profiles. Please see attached.

What is the easiest/fastest way to create this in Revit and what's the right way?

Hi all, the easiest/fastest way to create this window is in the family editor, where you can create the voids needed to make the openings. If you don't know how to make this in the family editor, create generic elements as voids to cut the walls and you get the same result.

You need to make sure you're using voids and not the opening tool in the window family. either use the void extrusion (in plan so you can get that cut-out) or a combination of void extrusion and void sweep if you need that profile at the head.

If you need any other advice, I've been plenty of complicated historic windows in my day and I'd be happy to help.

Model a thick wall.
Place any standard window with an opening cut onto the wall.
Create an independent generic model wall hosted family with voids only.
Place the new family onto your wall and align if in elevation with your window.
Now you can mix and match windows and custom openings.
