I got completely confused with how the (general) update releases and the (subscription) update releases work together. Have a read of What is the difference between Revit 2015 R2, and Revit 2015 UR2? (http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_weblog/2014/09/what-is-the-difference-between-revit-2015-r2-and-revit-2015-ur2.html) if you, like me, are a bit confused.
From what I can tell the Revit Clinic is the place to go for understanding Revit updates. I'm making this list in the hope that someone else finds it useful. So here are the links for updating Revit 2015 as described by The Revit Clinic (http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_weblog/)

4: There are two paths here. Regular Updates and Subscription only (aka R2) updates. If you choose the regular updates you cannot later switch to the subscription only updates without reinstalling Revit. Sadly I need to start all over again because I installed the regular UR5 instead of the subscription only version.
