Hi there,
Im thinking on learn ASD, i have seen some tutorials on the autodesk webpage, i havent seen all the tutorial there but of what i have seen, is it really neccesary for detailing ASD? can you do the same things in Revit than in ASD? or is there like something big i am missing in ASD? i have seen that to make some sheet views is quite fast, but if i model the rebar in ASD do i have to redraw it in ASD?
Opinion from everyone would be greatly appreciated :)
Regards
Alex

ASD is really meant for "shop" type drawing in my opinion. Design drawings and details can (and should) be done in revit.

I think Revit does a great job at shop drawings. Schedules are right on the money always and live. The modeling is easy and with a few custom families you can really sing with structural detailing.
We model/fabricate structural towers, and I have made custom families for angles that already have holes for bolts. I have custom plates that cut holes into beams, so there is no need to worry that the plate will not bolt up. I have bolt clusters that behave really well, face based. Bolt schedules update live. Beams cope very quickly with the cope command. I have handrail families that adjust and add into the schedules.
Bonus is the shop drawing links into the Revit construction layout. :) No need to jump through multiple applications to get a model into the layout. :)

cut and paste info from Autodesk ASD web page http://www.autodesk.com/products/autocad-structural-detailing/overview
As of April 13, 2015, AutoCADĀ® Structural Detailing has been discontinued.
Autodesk has been investing in new structural detailing solutions that support a wider range of modeling and documentation needs, while supporting improved team collaboration and user productivity. Autodesk believes that these new solutions, including Advance Steel and Autodesk Revit, are better suited to meet the range of our global customer needs.
