Visibility by phase - Revit

My firm has standards that require owner provided equipment to be shown with a dashed line style when the equipment is new and solid if the equipment is existing. We have families built for all of this equipment. Is there a way to have a family recognize its phase and display dashed or solid based on that phase? We are trying to have Revit do this automatically based on the phase without creating types within the family.

You can set up the VG overrides for phases filters to to that. In theory it should work.
Other options that I've seen used are filters based on a parameter setting. Gives you a little more flexibility and allows you kind of do multiple phases with in one view if needed.

Oh I should have mentioned the workaround for multiple phases in one view.
Simply make one view for each phase and place one view on top of another on your sheet.
Same goes if you have phase specific demolition without phase specific demolition.
