View Full Version : 2015 references diappear making extrusion

This has to be a bug!
I'm making in-place extrusions for stair footings. I need 2 and both are unique, so in-place is appropriate. To sketch the extrusion outline I need my column lines and reference planes. When I click extrusion, all the references disappear! How am I supposed to draw footings without grids and references?

Edit: I switched my background to black, and I get dimmed gridlines, but the reference planes are missing. Brings up the wishlist item that we should have a choice of background colors. In other CAD systems I used gray, which makes both white and black lines visible. But Autodesk says we can't have that in Revit, even though Acad does!!

Not sure about your Reference Planes, Mike, but about the background:
Which version are you in? (Scratch that - I see in your screen shot you're in 2015)
You can set the background color to anything you want in 2015.
Options...Graphics...Background
I've been experimenting a bit trying to find a nice Buff (think yellow trace paper) but for now I'm using a very light grey 240,240,240
But now I'm confused how you set yours to Black but didn't see other options

If you are correct, it will make my day. This is how I set to black background. If AD has given us another way, they might have bothered to tell us.....

Any reason you're not just using footings and making all these extrusions?
All footings should end up in scheduled if you ask me.

As Dave pointed out, if you are using Revit 2015 (as indicated by your screen cap) then under 'Graphics' you should see an option ot control Background color, not just invert it as was the case in older versions.

I don't think it was an initial offering in 2015. It had to be added with one of the updates. One person in our office hasn't yet had all the updates installed and the background color choice is not available to her.

Good catch Joshua. You are correct, the option was added as part of the R2 subscription update.

I inherited the project at 90% complete. I would have done a lot of things differently if I were around on day one. Most of the footings are in fact 3' hi walls. I decided to do in-place for the stair because of the size of the slab. And, it's a one-off. The site is quite flat and the footings are all at the same elevation. Somebody before me took the easy way out.

I've got R7 and I've got the option to change the color.

Mine just does not look like that in update 7. I've posted my about Revit window and my application graphic display options. To make it worse, Autodesk as of May 7, 2015 still only indicates the invert black/white option.

I wonder if that was only an added feature for the Suites and not stand alone's.

Something strange is going on here. Here are my two info screens side by side. Could the fact that I have an older video card cause this to happen?

You are on Subscription, aren't you, Mike?
R2 was a subscription-only release and the version numbers got really confusing after that.
Somebody over at RFO posted a flowchart of the 2015 versions

I don't know how to translate the about Revit numbers into releases, though

Dumb question, but you do have all the current updates for all versions of revit you have installed correct?
Is your video card revit compliant?
Just trying to think of some reason why you wouldn't get that option.
I've to 2012 thru 2015 and no problems here.
