So I have noticed this in the past, but I'm wondering why this happens. When we link files into a work shared model, we typically place them on a Workset. When you select that linked model, you can see in it's instance properties the workset in which it is on. But, when you go and edit the Type properties, there is another Workset parameter there. My question is, "Why?", and "What are they supposed to be used for?".
Thank you,
Jeff S.

A single linked file can have multiple placed instances in a host file. The type-based Workset can be used to control the visibility of all of the instances. The instance-based Workset to control each individual instance. When you first link a file, the current Workset is assigned in both places. If you link a file with the wrong Workset set current, you have to change it in both places if you want both the type and instance to be the same Workset, which is handy if you want to use Worksets to control the loading of linked files, particularly when upgrading a project to a newer version.
