IGESIMPORT Command fails

One of our group has created a 3D model in Microstation, I want to bring it into Autocad. Autocad has an IgesImport Command but it doesn't accept the IGES file from Microstation. I get a dialogue box which tell me that the file is being processed in the background then this
'Import Failed
The specified file is invalid or unsupported'
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this Import command doesn't work/accept the file?

so, what happens if you save the uStn dgn file as a DWG from within Microstation and then open it in Acad?

Similarly, what happens when you use DGNImport from Acad?

Saved the 3D DGN to DWG. It will open and what appears to be a 3D model is there but there are no solids, Everything hs been reduced to lines. If you try to use the Hide command nothing happens.

I tried that many releases ago ago and only the holes and voids were solids. Go figure.
