Good afternoon fellow AUGI'ers,

Our design team has currently run into an issue with moving grid lines after a structure has been designed in Revit. We recently designed, issued, and completed a building expansion we were working on, but during construction an error was made that caused the buildings foundation to be built 5" off of the location we designed for. After doing some research, it was decided by our client that we would move the superstructure the 5" to make up for the errors made during construction.

With this in mind, what I need to do is move the grid lines in my Revit project 5" to account for the error that was made in construction. This has turned out to be much more of a headache than I had foreseen. After trying to move the elements and grid lines, I realized that it really wasn't that easy of a change to make. If I move just the grid lines, the columns that are set to "Move with Grids" will be the only things that move. Also, if I try to select all the building elements and move them the 5", then all of the annotations that are linked to the elements and grids will be deleted.

At this point, I'm imagining that making the changes will be rather time consuming, but I have never had to deal with this issue throughout my experience. Does anyone have any input on a potential fix that would be slightly less of an impact on our design team? Any input would be appreciated.

If I've understood you correctly then the only issue is the value of the elevation notations in the project. To fix this *do not* try and move the building up, there is no need to do this. Doing so creates a huge list of problems, not least that you building will then be placed incorrectly on the sheets parallel to the direction in which you move the project.

Just move the projects base point in the opposite direction. If you're unfamiliar with this you could start here: http://blogs.rand.com/support/2012/07/revit-changing-the-level-elevation-without-moving-the-level.html

Basically you go into an elevation view, go to Manage > Coordinates > Specify coordinates at point, then select a level and you will be prompted to type the wished elevation. The same can be done to move a 'site' relative to a building in the horizontal plane. If there are several buildings in the project then you'll want to tackle this using shared coordinates.

Hope that helps you in the right direction.

This post is totally coincidental and ironic. I am having problems with elevations and I am using the same blog from Sherry at Imaginit that you recommend at this very moment. I find it hard to follow and I posted the results, which should appear just above this post. The part I don't get is making the shared level. It doesn't seem to make any difference.
