First of all, sorry for the Britney Spears reference in my post title.
However, here is a neat trick for using the OOPS command.
When STRETCHing, MOVEing, or HATCHing objects or an area, do you have other objects that tend to get in the way? That is, you accidentally modify OTHER objects that you want left alone, and then have to UNDO a number of steps to get those objects back to the way they were?
Well, my trick is to first ERASE those object you DON'T want modified, perform your desired task (ie. STRETCHing, MOVEing, etc), and when you are done, enter the OOPS command to bring the other objects back to EXACTLY the same size, shape, and location.
This tip works great when those obejcts happen to be on the same layer as those you want modified, and you can't Freeze ot Lock the layer(s)

If you happen to select items that you do not want in your group, you can hold down the shift key and de-select those items. I find this a better way than the oops. What if I get interupted and forget to oops until I erased something else.

Hi
Or use the "Remove" / "Add" object selection methods ie.
Where an AutoCAD command displays -
Select objects: _R <- will allow you to "Remove" objects from the current selection set
Select objects: _A <- will allow you to "Add" objects from the current selection set

Have a look at this wish list item.

Don't mind the comments. The original tip is a good one in the right circumstances.

I use vanilla (for now) and that has isolate objects layer (layiso). I do what I need to then use undo isolate objects layer (layuniso). Works great.

THANK YOU! I'm glad SOMEONE gets it ;) (joking, of course)
In all fairness to Dan and Mike, their tips work as well, but my point was to show how using OOPS reduces the extra steps that it takes to apply the Remove and Add options, and the shift key option.
When I ERASE my objects to get them out of the way, they are out of the way for good UNTIL I want to bring them back.
For example, I will erase my intrusive objects first, then I can COPY, MOVE, TRIM, EXTEND, ROTATE, SCALE, HATCH (etc) other objects as desired, and THEN use the OOPS command to bring the intrusive objects back. With Dan and Mikes suggestions, I have to CONSTANTLY use Remove/Add/Shift-remove to accomplish the above mentioned tasks.
Dan is right, if I erase ANOTHER group of objects before I use OOPS to bring my original selection set back, I'm SNAFU'd.

I agree this is an excellent work around and it looks like a great step saver. I would just like to see the functionality of Isolate Objects from MAP, not to be confused with Isolate Layer as these are very different items, incorporated into vanilla AutoCAD.

Could this just be a LSP or ARX routine that can be copied over into Plain Vanilla AutoCAD I wonder?

I use that one all the time. Its much quicker to just delete them, do what you have to do, then oops them back (for me anyway). Good tip, I shoulda posted it!!!!

True, but I get into the command first, then just type P. No _ needed!
Or if you get into it , type P, then enter only once, you can add to your selection or remove from it by holding the shift key and selecting an object.

Here are a couple of programs that I wrote becasue of working on large 3d models.
But works like you want.
CLR
This command will turn off all the entities you select regardless of layer .
AO
This command turns back on everything.
HMO
Not health Insurance but tells you how many items are turned off.
RON
This will reverse the selection of what was on is now off and what was off is now on.
Have fun

i use layfrz. freeze the layers that you don't want. it opens up a clear path then turn the layers back on when your done. then there is no need for OOPS verbal or otherwise. i have layfrz set as LO. things go quick.

Help needed please. I know this is the wrong thread but I don't know how to start a new one. I am a new user, using Auto CadLT 2000. Suddenly all of the command buttons that normally reside on the screen are gone. How do I get them back?
Help!!!

Hi Rick, welcome to AUGI.
Are you sure it's LT not full acad?
If it were full acad typing FULLSCREEN (or possibly CLEARSCREEN) would probably fix it but they are/were not part of LT.

It is definitely LT. The buttons were always there and I must have hit something that made them disappear. When I restart they don't come up either

I just fired up a copy of 2002LT to check but I don't see anything that might help. :-(
A repair/re-install may be the only answer.

Oops is a decent trick, however, think of all the operations
that need to be performed. I prefer to deselect geometry.

Thanks for the tip dani851, I didn't know you can de-select object by using the shift key...
