I have collected a half-dozen or so error messages on why I cannot change the username for a workset-enabled file and/or save it so I can use it going forward under a different username. Does anyone have a rational, and simple method? Revit help is not helpful to me.

Have you tried opening the model detached, audit and editable worksets; and then re-created the Central Model?
Sounds like it is either a workset corruption issue, or file permissions issue.

- - - DETACHED worked - Thanks so much! Lesson: Whenever Revit's trying to be too helpful, try some detachment!:)
sometimes Revit is too sophisticated.

If it was last saved with out relinquishing the workset you won't be able to do anything with the workset unless you open the file under that users name.
Option B (Assuming no one has done any work in the file) would be to re-create and overwrite the existing central file.
Only other option I can think of would have to do with C4R (A360).
