Section Settings before placement

Hi,
Is there a way to define your section settings before you drop a section in view?
And I'm not referring to a view template because you cannot select a view template until you've created a view.

To be a bit more specific:
I'd like to define in my project template what the view settings of a section are before it is created (Detail level, etc.)

While you can't select a view template you can automatically apply one to a view type.
So when you create an interior section you can apply the "interior section" view template to the view.
