Ok I have a problem and from what I can see is an issue that Revit can't solve. I need to produce exploded axons for a four story building and have no idea how to. The plans are fairly complicated and the relationship from one floor to the floor above/below is a design feature that can best be shown by drawing an exploded axon of the building.
Can anyone help me with this one???
Also, separation of the floors from the walls would be great too. However, all I really need at this point is some way to show a 3D view of the building with the floors separated.

Its actually very simple. Create a 3d view, set it to the orientation you want, ie southwest.
2. turn on section box.
3. crop the section box around one part of the model.
4. duplicate the view
5. adjust the section box around the next part.
continue until you have it broken down however you want
now place all the views on a sheet, and add dashed lines as needed.

And here's another way....
Place each of the levels on its own workset.
Produce 3D views of each level with other workset levels turned off.
Place each view separately on a drawing sheet, sliding the view up a fixed distance.( you can measure this on the sheet if you wish )
Draw dashed linework on the sheet to show the connection relationship.
The lowest level name could be changed to “Exploded Axon” or you could use a “dummy” view title.
Image shows an example.

Thanks Guys that helps a lot!!!
Again I am proven wrong about the limitations of Revit
- There seem to be very few

In addition for certain presentations you can also play with the transparency of materials & or paint walls floors etc with glass
In addition to the exploded axon from a presentation standpoint, we also like to designate our room colors in our 3-D axon.
I noticed that Revit does not support the use of color fills in 3-D views. This is quite unfortunate. I am not a programmer, but it seems to me that this would not be diffucult to implement. The information is already built into the model using room objects and the color fill legends. Right now we send it out into Photoshop/ Illustrator to get the colors to show in a 3-D axon.
Is there a way to accomplish this in Revit so we can save a step? If not, how might others recommend creating this in Revit?

search for phil read's post on 3d color fills. he uses ceiling objects that are the height of the room using a semi-transparent color to do color fills in 3d. another option (although more time consuming) would be to make masses in the rooms for color fill (you could put them on a different workset and only show them in the 3d views you wanted them in

You do not have to workset masses. Just use the mass toggle button . I really disagree with using ceilings as anything other than ceilings. It wreaks havoc with schedules and you know one of those ceilings will get left for CD and get tagged or something. Masses make better temp objects because that is what they are.

One thing that i did for a detailed exploded axon was to create families that had parts exploded out. This group of families were all placed on a design option called "exploded axon" and could therefore reside in the same general location as the unexploded part.
Good thing about doing it this way, is that if you so desire, you can rotate around the assembly to get a better view

Very nicely done!
Are you including that in your CD Package?
cheers........

We are. It was a bit of a bear getting it done. Now im trying to finesse the line work and add cut patterns...everything has to be done with detail lines drawn on the sheet itself. Yay.
This of course means that the 3d view needs to be set in stone. To make it easier, i just set the view using the corner of the view cube.
