When editing a wall type, or creating a new one (or in place families), it would make a lot of sense if you could enter the materials settings from the properties box, rather than having to close the properties, make a new material, the open the properties again. Know what I mean? Same for surface patterns - when in the materials box, if I could edit surface patterns without having to close the materials box, create a pattern, then open the box again.....

Its a pain to keep closing and opening dialogue boxes when a 'new' button would do the job for us.

A button in the wall properties when selecting material, that took you to materials dialogue ready to enter a new material, thats exactly what I'm after.

In fact in an ideal world I would like to keep various dialog boxes open as browsers and not have to 'ok' them when I want to make a change to another one, even they are linked. It ought to be possible to have surface patterns, materials and wall creation dialogs all open and active at once.

I agree, I said something similar in another wish. Non-modal dialog boxes would be cool especially if they were auto-hiding or transparent.
