Hi all

I am wondering how to turn on/off visibility of certain types of walls in a linked revit architectural model. There are three types of walls in the arch model and I only want to be able to see one type so I can trace them easier.

Things ive tried:
1) using filter in arch model, turn off visibility of undesired walls in arch model. this does not turn off undesired walls in link when i reload after saving arch model.
2) using filter in structural model, i'm not able to turn off undesired types of walls because their types do not show up in menu within filter dialog because they are types within the linked model, not the structural model.

Thank you for any ideas.

Fmplatt530,

What I've done in the past is open the VG dialog and go to the linked model tab. Then under the display settings at the far right I click on the button that says "By Host View". That will open up a new window which will allow you a couple of different options. You'll have 3 check boxes, "By Host View", "Linked View" and "Custom". I always use the custom option which will unlock the other tabs in that window and allow you to turn things off and on in the linked arch'l model. You could also use the Linked view option but then you would probably have to go into the arch'l model and set up the linked view to your liking, but then you would have to do that with each new update of the arch'l model as your project progresses.

As a side note I have only had 1 project where I absolutely had to do it this way, usually I am tracing a cad file with our structural information on it that was generated from the arch'l model via the export tool. My next project that comes into the office I am going to be playing around with the copy/monitor tool, for the first time ever. Have you tried utilizing that to generate your structural model? I may be remembering this incorrectly from the article I read awhile back in the AugiWorld mag, but I believe that it eliminates the need for tracing the walls. You might want to look into that as option as well since I pretty sure that it will also grant some other benefits to as the project progresses.

Hope this helps,

Kyle

Kyle,

Thanks for the tips. I have used copy/monitor and I think this is the best way to manage bringing in walls from the arch'l model. My boss said he'd rather I didn't use that tool this time around (he didn't want the majority of walls in structural model) so I was trying out other ideas. Your reply will be valuable so thank you again.

I'm years too late to this thread to help the OP but wanted to post to help other people looking for this solution that trip across this thread. It is possible to do this with filters. As the OP noted, the wall type will not show up in the drop down list, but it can be typed in. It must match exactly, including case, but works fine.
