View Full Version : 2015 Why won't linked file category honor graphic overrides?

I have a roof plan with several Duct objects in a linked file from my HVAC consultant. His duct objects show up with green lines by default. I went them to be black, and a heavier line weight in my roof plan. I went to my roof plan View Template and changed the Duct category to have thicker, black Projection lines. No change. I went to the VT and went into the linked file's overrides, changed to Custom, and changed the Ducts category again to have thicker, black Projection lines. Still not change, they're still showing up with green lines.

What is the problem here, why won't it take on the settings I'm telling it to do?

I has this problem and discovered that it's because ducts are not colored by category, but by rather by classification. That is an property of the duct. I'm still not quite sure how it works, or why our VG overrides don't work. But I made filters catching the same parameter and voilá - it works.

Well there are some other objects with the same issue. Some PVC pipe plumbing vents for example, and a rooftop exhaust ventilator fan.

It's based on your system color setting.
Each "System" type in revit has them. You can change and adjust them by changing the V/G settings of the systems.
I can't remember exactly where you do it at, but I know the help page was actually useful for this one.

One way to fix this is to apply a filter to all of the systems (which are ducts, pipes and such) and choose the parameter value of system and set it equal to *.
Then you can adjust the VG of they system without messing around with the link.
At least that's my guess as to why you can't change the color of them.

Hope this helps.
