I know I can get the layer key style into Excel but how do I get the actual layer names into Excel even if the drawing is not populated with all the AEC objects? User wants a heads up of what layer names are created in ADT for documentation in his CAD standards.
Thanks,
David

Try editing the layer key style dwg & then do screen shot of the window showing the keys & layers they go to.

Edit the Layer Key Style, set the Keys tab current, right click in a blank area in the list box and choose Copy All from the context menu. Fire up Excel, start a new worksheet, select the cell you would like to be the upper left cell of the data and paste. This gives you all the data on the Keys tag, including both the layer keys and the layer names.

I asked this question several months ago and didn't have much luck with feedback. If you are interested, I am attaching what information I found on the internet and am including a list I accumulated and added some of my own layer names to. I adjusted the layer names that come in automatically to be by color and by layer and added more fine layers to the AIA Standard ctb. (I found that if I used the AIA Standard ctb, it came in with line-weights that looked like they were drawn with magic markers.) I needed a general list to use when just drawing 2-d, thus the line layers 0-9. I hope someone finds this helpful.

If your lineweights appear out of whack, verify that the drawing was set up to use STB in lieu of CTB.

Well that will work.... Must have taken you time to do this effort. Wish we had something elegant from Autodesk to stuff in our CAD Stnds book. But then what is a community of our peers for?
