Compound Wall Joins

I have an exterior cavity wall with 6" interior CMU partitions. The cavity wall has a brick exterior and the CMU faces inwards. When I place the interior partitions, instead of joining with the cavity wall CMU, it joins with the airspace! Nothing I have done joins the CMU to CMU.

What am I doing wrong?

Odd? My first thought was how is the air space defined: as a structural layer? Is it in the core layer?
