Linework tool confusing

Hi all

I have some concrete retaining walls in plan view and i'd like to clean up the footing lines (they won't automatically clean up because they are at different elevations)

I feel like I've done this before in another project and I used the linework tool. This time, when using the linework tool, the footing lines appear to be stacked infinitely on top of each other and moving the grips of the linework just peels off a layer and there's an endless number of lines below the line I tried to fix.

Any suggestions? thanks so much

After playing with a lot of settings i learned that graphics overrides create problems for the linework tool. I was trying to clean up footing lines in plan view and they would not cooperate because they were overridden to show as dashed. When I turned off overrides the lines cooperated and i was able to clean them up.
