section plane display issues

Often when I draw a section plane, I find that the only way I can get the section to display is by closing the program and reopening it. In other words, I draw a section plane and nothing in my 3D view (iso) changes. Regen doesn't work....so...I assume it has to do with my computer, but I was wondering if there was a setting or more that I could look at to see if the performance improves. Or, is there a trick that I am missing regarding the use of section planes?

When you create your section line you will see what looks like an oversized grip arrow on the left side of the line. Click on that and you'll get a set of options. Choose the Boundary option and that will create an adjustable boundary box that will exclude everything outside of the box's volume.
