Hello. could anyone help me with how to find a specific elevation on a 3dpolyline? I need to create new contours, and I have the slope between the old contours defined by 3dpolys. now I simply need to "connect the dots" at my major contour lines. I was hoping the "Daylighting" command could help me, but I've yet to figure out how... any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure it's a very simple solution, however, I am not able to find it. thanks!

ok, going to use the "Create Points by Interpolation" command as a dirty shortcut, but if there's an easier way, I'd love to know. thanks!

Kris, If you make a copy of the existing surface and then make a surface out of your new 3D polys, you can "Merge" the two and then create contours from the merged surfaces. Granted, they may not exactly overlap due to the way the existing was created. If you create a boundary at the union of the two surfaces and apply that as an Outer boundary, your new contuors, will stop there. If you are looking for "Daylight" lines, you can use your composite or grid surface that you ran the quantites with and set the elevation to 0. This will bring in one contour that is actually your Daylight limit(s).

I accidently discovered one day that it was possible to put contours on a volume result surface. Several times now I've created a volume result surface comparing existing to proposed ground for a lot, and then used the "Surface View -> Banding - 2D Solids" option to create overlot exhibits. Areas with various amounts of cut and fill show up in various colors - good stuff is green, areas of cut go from green through shades of yellow and orange to red for serious cut, while areas of fill go from green through shades of blue to purple for serious fill. The general contractors love it.

If you go to Terrain - Surface Display - Settings and select User Range or Auto Range, you can set the colors and the slope percentages for each of the colors as well. This can help even more to find where your site goes from a 15% to an 18% driveway or 3:1 to 2:1 slope.
