Hi,

Can someone with knowledge on how Revit is developed to clarify why area plans cannot be phased as opposed to rooms?

Thanks!

Rooms can not be Phased (assuming I understand what you mean by 'Phased'). They exist only in the phase in which they are created and do not persist to the following Phase. The same is true for Areas. The logic is actually quite reasonable in my opinion. If I have a hall divided into into two rooms (Revit Rooms) and demolish the partition - how on earth is Revit giong to know which of the two Rooms should fill the now double as big space? Typical practice is to put the information you need into the existing Rooms, then copy them to the following phase (typically New Construction) and manually clean up where rooms overlap or new rooms are needed.

Thanks for the response Duncan. I still reinforce the idea that rooms can be phased. Yes, you cannot change the parameter to change the phase like you can for walls, but it takes the phase of the view it's in and this is not the case for area plans.

I tried hard to understand how Revit's inability to decide which room to assign to a "doubled space", in your example, would affect phasing of area/rooms. Meaning that I can't understand why that rationale would not let area plans to be phased. If a wall is taken away and now the is a clash, let it be a warning and let's fix it. I can't believe Autodesk would not use a great feature for a simple clash possibility. I accept the fact that you can't phase it, but the reason behind it is of importance to me I guess.

Regards.

I'm not sure we understand each other yet :?: An Area Plan does have a Phase, but the Area itself does not, you're right that Rooms do (but it can't be changed). I hadn't thought about that difference. So this means you can't sort or filter or Schedule them by Phase... but I'd always make separate Area Schemes for an existing and a new area plan. So maybe that's why I've never noticed this difference. Interesting.
