Single to Double Line

I am looking for a way to globally change single linetypes to a double linetype. For example, when creating a map, I want to show roads as a double line, similar to the roads on a 7.5 minute USGS quad map. This ideally would be something that could be done using Feature Class or Display Manager. Also, it should be as simple as changing pline width, or color or linetype. I know that ESRI software can do this, but I haven't found any Autodesk software that can do this. I should be able to specify an offset distance and clean up intersections similar to multi-line. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
