Summary: Ability to turn off different layers in view types
Description: It would be nice if in the Visibility Graphics you could filter out the various layers of the wall. For example, depending on the scale, you may not want to display thermal/air layers, (rigid insulation between the substrate and finish whether it's brick, stone, or something else) and it would be nice to be able to expand the wall category in Visibility Graphics and un-check the layers you do not want to see. Right now we can turn off common edges, hidden lines, or sweeps, but I want to turn off the insulation as mentioned above because in tighter views (1/8" vs. 1/4" or 1/2") the multiple layers can get really messy and can't be filtered out.

This display is already controlled with the level of detail settings: Coarse, Medium, and Fine.

Not quite. Changing to Coarse, Medium, or Fine detail level gives me all or nothing, I need something in between. On my architectural drawings I'm fine seeing the layer of insulation between the brick and airspace, but on my structural drawings I don't want to see the insulation, but still need to be able to see the brick, studs, sheathing. Same goes for if I have EIFS, on my architectural drawings I'm fine seeing the EIFS/finish layers, but on my structural drawings I only want to see the studs and sheathing. I see a lot of mentions in places saying to create parts and then hide what you don't want to see. Creating parts and hiding them is a work-around, but not an acceptable solution as it creates all kinds of error messages when you need to modify things in that wall later.
I've never see it explained to this level of detail which is why I created this request, and I know it's been an issue for friends at other firms in the past. When I've brought it up they told me to create parts. I ask about the errors, they say they just deal with it. Dealing with constant error messages is not an acceptable solution. Revit has been around how long and this is still an issue?

Yes, I think this is a crucial wish. I find it annoying that I can only plot no wall layers (Coarse Detail Level) or all of them (Medium, Fine Detail Level). Complete wall assemblies are necessary for accurate Material Takeoff, but plotting 1-2cm tiny wall finish layers is not a common practice. Manual workarounds like hiding wall layers by changing them to invisible lines don’t reflect some od the BIM benefits - less mistakes, work faster.
