Hello everybody,
I am looking for information on how to create a wire harness from imported data file (.csv). All of the electrical components within my assembly have the pin points labeled and have reference designators set up. I can create the spreadsheet data as a simple to-from chart, but where do I find the .cfg file? How do I create one? I haven't found a tutorial yet that explains this. Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Until then, I will have to route it manually. Thanks.

I still haven't found what I'm looking for, so I've manually created the point-to-point wiring inside this box. I've attached screenshots of the box I'm working on. I have two pair of wires that should be twisted together (the green and yellows), but I haven't figured out how to show them twisted together yet. Most of the wires are not yet rendered, so will not show up in a drawing at this time. Also, the wires should be bundled into four groups to the rest of the box, but routing them through a segment doesn't give the look that our techs are wanting. Is there anyone out there in AUGI land who has worked with wiring and harnesses in Inventor? If so, how do you speed up the process? What are your secrets? I will post back if I come up with some answers. 103642

Ok. After much research, I found the answers for my first post, in that WireListConfiguration.cfg is the configuration file to use. The funny thing is, it is part of the cable and harness tutorial files. So a person will have to go out to Autodesk and download the tutorial in order to have it. I was able to create a .csv file that would create wire runs. I will attempt to create a list of 75 of the wires this time and see if it works.

Here is a list of things to remember for harness and wire routing in Inventor:
1) Create and properly label pins on every connector
2) Authoring the connector shows Inventor the direction the wires/cable exits a connector
3) Set the reference designator place holder for every connector (ex. J? or P?)
4) From the harness environment, you can properly name all of your reference designators
5) When importing harness data, you can physically remap the reference designators if need be
6) .csv extension for the spreadsheet seems to work best
7) You can use WireListConfiguration.cfg as your standard configuration file. I suggest copying it to a easier to find and more logical location.
8) After loading the harness data, you can adjust the routing by adding points to the individual wires, or route one or all of them through a segment(s).
I still have some questions and issues to address regarding harness modeling and routing, but this answers a good many of them. Hopefully, this will help others. Good luck.
