If it's the linked view then yes you can't hide anything from that linked model as the linked model controls what you're viewing.
If you want it set up like that set the link to by linked view, apply it, then set it to custom.
It'll keep the setting of the linked view that you just applied.
Then you should be able to tab select anything you want from the link and hide it.

i did what you said, changed it to custom, tab selected the element and revit let me hide the CATAGORY. not the ELEMENT.

You should be able to tab select the individual element.
At least I can do that in 2016.
Try this in a duplicate view without any view template applied.

Change Linked model category to custom as well.
I think that's the missing step.
