Hi everyone,
I use Revit 2015-2016, during my daily works at my company, we spend a lot of time to complete the designs. I just wonder if there's a way to lock a revit model down, making it read only when issuing the model. We want to protect our works, please help to advice how could we achieve this goal ???
Best,
Vic

Hi, I see 2 options :
- if possible use Worksharing on a Revit Server (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/Revit-Collaborate/files/GUID-3896288A-0729-4C41-A67D-4FA970DF3E43-htm.html) ;
- if not, use the Navisworks export format (to open with the free viewer Navisworks Freedom).
Does anyone have a better idea?

After enabling work sharing, you can check out the workset/s that you would like to lock/protect then close the model without relinquishing.
However, i don't recommend this process as it may cause workflow disturbance & many denied requests (depending on how many users in the central file).
IMHO, Best way to handle a central file is through teamwork collaboration & better communication.

Best way to "protect" your issued models is to archive them.
When I issue models I burn them to a DVD.
Can't change it on accident that way.
I also save a unique copy on our server.
Then again we also have a 90 day live back up.
So I'm pretty much covered.
3d Dwfs would be another way to issue the model without giving them the actual model file.
