Dear AUGI Team,

I have faced an issue while creating a family for my work.Below are the details, please review and suggest.

1. I have created a series of horizontal model lines followed by a vertical model line at the one end of those horizontal lines. Interestingly they were auto constrained and elongated when vertical line is displaced.

2. When I tried to constraint those horizontal lines with a reference planes, one or two lines are locked with reference plane at the end of vertical line side. remaining says "Dimension will overconstrain the sketch". How could that possible? even I didn't provide any type of constraints to that lines.

Please review and suggest any solution.

Thanks,

Venki

Verify the family doesn't have any hidden dimensions that are creating the constraint condition. Perhaps they existed in the template or family before you started creating the family.

What type of Family? It is possible that the type of Family, and its template, has dimensional constraints built into it, as Brian said. And, since all things in Revit are related to each other, it's possible that the Model Lines were adapting as they were drawn, creating relationships. In Families, these relationships are often subtle. One way to avoid things like this is to start with Reference Planes before drawing any objects (Model Lines, surfaces, anything). Then, dimension to the Reference Planes. Apply parameters to the dimensions. Flex the dimensions. Test everything first. THEN, and only then, start to model objects.
