It does not appear that there is really all that much on the exchange. Is there a reason people do not seem to be posting much to it? For the number of people that use the forums you would think there would be a wealth of families posted to the exchange. I think we could all help each other a great deal by sharing as many families as we can. So far that is the biggest downfall (in my opinion) of Revit is the amount of time needed to amass a library of families that can actually be used.

Any thoughts?

Part of it could be that the UPLOAD portion of the Exchange is not functioning yet.

Hi All,

I'm interested to know what is happening with the exchange.

For the small office user it is difficult to find the extra time needed to create decent components. I realise that you can import DWG into families as a work around but, no parametrics, colours and rendering are a problem etc.

The forum is also a reasonable place to ask for families but it would be excellent to review different types models etc without annoying everybody.

With autocad, many blocks where available from all types of sources and made users much more productive.

I just checked into the exchange and did a search for all items

Number of Results = 98 : Page 1 of 1

Searching elsewhere gives similar results ie. revitcity etc.

There must be hundreds of great families being developed out there and I think it is long over due for the exchange to be supported more by all.

It will show revit at its best when models are filled with well made components.

Regards.

Steve

Hi Gordon ,
beeing right, Revitcity has more families than our forum; but i think we can gorve up it, we have only to start.....to forget our laziness and so and so: maybe we have to find somebody that help us to start .....ours coordinators do so much anyway!!

patience......(I know we've been saying that a LONG time :-) ) but we are getting close to a "real" exchange for all Autodesk products on AUGI.

What is the status of the exchange? I'm a faithful follower of this UG and would like to be trading families here as well. Nothing against the other sites, and, one stop shopping is sweet.

Will the Revit Exchange allow thumbnail viewing of families? I know we can look at them with the viewer, but having thumbnail functionality in addition is very user friendly.

Cheers!

The remaining RUGI content was posted on Sept. 1. The ability to upload files is the last piece of the puzzle and we hope to have that available next month.

Hi all,

I keep getting an error message when trying to confirm that I can view the Exchange.

I have reloaded the viewer several times and still have had no success.

Any idea?

Thanks,
Bob W

Pop up blocker? ActiveX install controlled by your systems admin people?

It shouldn't be that difficult a process.

What is the actual error message?

We just went ahead and posted a couple of families or legends that we thought would be of use, based on the thread content. As well, we forwarded families for the CD. I support fully the importance of getting a shared download site where everyone will benefit. I would suggest that we id if metric or imperial, though Revit converts quite well.
