correct me if I'm wrong, basic walls can only be stored in the project and not in a 'library' where you can just load the wall?

If I want to create a wall library, start with a blank project and create the walls there. then when i need a wall, open up the wall library.rvt and copy/paste into current .rvt.

That's what we have.
Started a new project with our template.
Deleted everything in it (well basically everything) and then generated all of our wall types.
Added in some drafting views for details and stuck them on sheets.
To populate it, yes copy and paste.

We created our Wall Library using Legend Views hosting all of the Details.
The Legends contain Details with a Legend Component and all of the Annotation.
Then each Wall Type and it's Annotation are Grouped (Group name same as Wall Type)
The users open the Library, find the Wall Type they want, and Copy the Group to their Clipboard.
Then they go back to the Wall Type View in their project and Paste.
This gets them both the Revit Wall Type and the annotated Detail.
The Groups all have a similar Origin Point and the project has a grid laid out, so all the Details come in nice and neat.
