our structural consultant likes the floor plan backgrounds to only show the stud layer of the wall. is there an efficient way of doing this? right now I am exporting to dwg and in AutoCAD I am deleting all the lines that represent either the sheathing or finish layer. which is very time consuming.

What you could do is:
• Open the Visibility/Graphic Overrides for the Floor Plan you want to export;
• Tick the “Cut Line Styles” box and select the adjacent Edit button;
• Set the “Structure [1]” layer to a thicker Line Weight than all other layers – OK and Finish;
• Go to Export > CAD Formats > DWG and select the “Modify Export Setup” button (3 dots next to Select Export Setup);
• Under Layers, scroll down and expand the Walls category;
• Find “Structure [1]” and rename the Projection and/or Cut Layers to be unique from all other Wall Layers – OK and Finish;
• Continue to Export the Floor Plan;
• Open the DWG and simply Freeze the unwanted Wall Layers – Save and Close.

This assumes that your Revit Wall stud Layers are set to "Structure [1]".
