Is it possible to use a triangle instead of a square as a family for keynoting? I have created a triangle as a family, however, when I add a leader it is detached from the triangle.

Leaders are going to stop at the bounding box of the tag graphics. Assuming your triangle has a horizontal bottom edge, taking a leader off of the left or right side will, as you found, stop short of the angled left or right side of triangle. The only thing you might do is to add horizontal line on each side of your tag, where the horizontal leg of a two-segment leader would come in, and then tie the visibility of those to a parameter which will allow them to be turned on or off. I would suggest making the visibility parameters type-based, and having a type for a left-side leader and a type for a right-side leader.
