I can query and label text for my parcels quickly. I believe annotation can be used for the same purpose. Maybe the display tab in the project workspace can also be used. Does anyone have an opinion which is the quickest and easiest?

Thanks, Jim

What exactly are you doing now? What is your overall task?

I think this falls into the category of there being no one way that is always "best". It depends on circumstances.

If you're trying to figure out if it's useful to learn how to use Map annotations, then the answer is a resounding "YES!"

Thanks for the reply. We have almost 30,000 parcels in the county and was looking for a quick way to label with PIN. I understand the annotation is desirable for a printed product, but the query seems quicker for the initial text placement. It sounds like from your response that I had better see what annotation is all about. I tried setting it up and it appeared like it wanted me to define the location for ALL polygons, but I bet I could choose centroid it I needed to. If you know of some tutorial, let us know.

Thanks again,

Jim

Jim,

It would be easier to help if we knew which release(s) you are using. Since the later releases have added some functionality that isn't available in earlier one. The ability to define a Class being a BIG one that may be just what you are looking for.

I have been attempting to define classes, but gave up because I couldn't tie up the loose ends on it. I am on Map 3D 2005 and hope to get the 2006 in a few weeks. I heard that the map books are greatly enhanced and should make it usable for setting up. The plot preview and auto layout sound good. That is why I want to save a bit of time in manually labeling as we have been doing.
