I'm very new to Revit and haven't found much information on how best to schedule doors, windows, and Store Front systems.

Currently my company has a door schedule and a Glass schedule. This comes from the fact that one sub does wood and hollow metal doors and the other company does store front glass. I have included samples of both schedules. We rarely deal with true curtain walls. When they are present my only requirement is to schedule a door noting all things about the door without any mention of the curtain wall it sits in.

How does your company schedule the different type elements mentioned in my subject line within Revit? How parametric are your doors, windows as they relate to the schedule? i.e. if I change the width of a door on the schedule does it actually change the door in the model? I'm open to changing how we do things but am unsure which way to go.

thanks

Hi Millard,

Your door schedule presents no problems in Revit. You can set it up exactly as per your example. Have you run through the relevant tutorials on schedules yet ? Worth doing. Yes, if you change a door parameter in the schedule, it will physically change the door in the model at the same time.

Your glass schedule is based on the size and specifications of glazing in the doors and windows ? Again, this can be scheduled by setting up the correct parameters in the door and window families. You will need to get comfortable with creating families which is a vital and important part of Revit anyway. Again start with the tutorials, they're good value.

Once you're got that covered, you're laughing !

be careful....changing doors in schedules is very powerful. If you change a Type parameter, ALL of your doors of that same type will change in your model. If you want to change only one door, you will need to change the door type, or create another one.

We just learned at AU, that Schedules are often the BEST place to make changes in the model, because the data is so readily available. Don't be afraid to create multiple schedules to get at the data. You don't have to use them in your sheets, but they can be very useful for your model!

I would be very interested to see some of your door families and the schedule they are used in. There again I am wanting to avoid faking things (want to keep it parametric) in the schedule as much as possible.

Yes, I have worked through the tutorials and they are great at getting started but not so good at explaning the nuts and bolts. Also with no other CAD Operator here at my work place, I have only these forums to ask other people questions and bounce ideas off of.

thanks again,

Millard

Millard,

Have a look at Steve Stafford's door schedule in THIS TOPIC (www.zoogdesign.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=968&highlight=schedule+door) which also contains a link to other door schedule methods.
