I recently received a new computer with Windows 10. I noticed that my dwg files no longer have the file type "AutoCAD DWG", but rather just "DWG File". The issue is that now all my .bak files now appear above my .dwg files in Windows Explorer. According to this link: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Change-file-association-for-DWG-files.html, Windows newer than XP no longer supports changing these file type names. But this article is over 2 yrs old, so hopefully things have changed since then or is that still the case? I can't change the order of the file types because then all sorts of other files are at the top; nwc, dwl, etc.

What are you doing to deal with .bak files being shown above .dwg files?

It's not an issue of the correct application getting launched when opening the dwg, but rather how it affects the 'select file' list. For example, when opening or appending a new drawing into an existing Navisworks file, all the DWG files are below the BAK files.

correct, but by associating it with the dwg launcher, it will change the file type to say AutoCAD DWG so it will be above the bak files alphabetically. Or at least that is what I see on my end:

That was it the trick, associating it with the launcher instead of an application, like I previously did and did not get the correct results.

Thanks for leading me down the right path.
